Working in a restaurant is one of the most shittiest jobs in the world. Treatment of staff is very poor.
Its just a fucking shit job, you have to be on your feet all day and when its busy you have to work fast with limited waiters available and your legs will be aching to the bone, the bosses and managers are scum, they dont want to know your problems and they dont care.
In the place I work for, a PFC style dine-in restaurant, they have recruited a manager who bullshitted at the interview to the bosses, that he worked for various large high street chains but in this restaurant he has no skills on the floor, he only has text-book knowledge and is trying to implement it with lots of failures. One of the funniest things is the owners believed his bullshit at the interview and has handed over all responsibilities to him and that's not all, the workers are manipulating him and making a joke and mockery out of him.
If you get a job in a restaurant, it also means you cannot eat when you are hungry, they will make you starve - why ? because customers come first and in some restaurants (like this one) they have extremely limited staff. Even on suspected busy days like today there were only TWO waiters. It was mildly busy and we had to work fast. Should the whole house had been full they we would have been running around like headless chickens.
Anyway, around 9.30 pm I was hungry, I went to the kitchen for some food - a handfull of chips on a small plate. The manager came and snatched it from my hand because I am not allowed to eat without his permission and that I have to tell him half an hour before I am hungry. I explained to him I cannot know I am hungry before I get hungry half an hour early. Then he said to me ok, I can eat after 2 minutes when another waiter comes back from whereever he was, then he said I can eat in 5 minutes after the other waiter comes back. Half an hour later, 10pm, the other waiter still hasnt come back, the inexperienced manager still wont let me eat, so I confronted him by saying is this your 2 minutes and 5 minutes ? and he responds to me like you're measuring time very accurately with my response in retaliation being "you have left me in a desert" - meaning I cannot have food or water for hours on end even though I had lunch at 3pm but he didnt want to know about it. This has now resulted in an argument with the inexperienced manager denying me my basic human rights to food, water and speech.
